About Greenlea Golf Course
Greenlea didn’t start as a golf course.
Back in the late 1930s, Walter and Muriel planted a nursery here. Years later, at 65, they decided to turn that land into something they could enjoy in retirement—a golf course. Walter helped design it himself, shaping what would become a quiet staple in the area.
That same land is still here today. Open space, country views, and Mount Hood always sitting out in the distance.
A new chapter
Greenlea is now owned and run by PGA Professional Scott Shields and his wife, Nicole Shields. Scott’s been connected to this course for a long time, he worked here as a summer hand when he was a teenager. He grew up playing locally, made his way onto the Sandy High School golf team, and went on to pursue his PGA career through Portland State.
He spent decades at Gresham Golf Course, teaching, coaching, and working with players at all levels, including local high school teams.
Meet Scott
PGA Professional. Local golfer. Lifelong student of the game.
Scott started playing as a kid, competed at Sandy High School, and went on to pursue his PGA career through Portland State. Over the years, he’s taught everyone from high school teams to brand new players picking up a club for the first time. Although he doesn’t offer personal lessons he does coach the Sandy Girls Golf team.
At Greenlea, you’ll probably find wearing every hat around the course, in the pro shop, maintenance, repairing equipment and keeping the course is top shape.
Meet Zach
Zachary Shields is a key part of the Greenlea team, keeping the course running behind the scenes and bringing a familiar face to the pro shop. As Scott’s son, he’s grown up around the game and now helps maintain the greens all summer long—watering, mowing, and making sure the course stays in great shape. When he’s not out on the course, you’ll find him behind the counter, adding a bit of personality to your round.
The course
Greenlea is a 9-hole course in Boring, Oregon with five par 3s and four par 4s.
It’s the kind of course you can learn on, come back to, and actually enjoy playing—whether it’s your first time or your hundredth.
What it’s like here
